Othello at the American Players Theater

Shakespeare under the stars. Chris, Tessa, Ahu, and I had a fantastic evening at the American Players Theater in Spring Green, Wisconsin last Saturday. Weather in Chicago looked gloomy but everything cleared up by showtime. Perfect night, actually. Fall temperatures. Not a cloud anywhere. Zero wind. These moments during the play where everything just went completely still and quiet. Can't get that kind of peace indoors.

The play? Marvelous. Hadn't seen Othello before. Fascinating look at the best and worst in people. Seen Shakespeare performed before (most recently at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater) but this blew all of that away. Acting was top-notch, the theater itself is gorgeous, and the weather could not have cooperated better.

The guys playing Othello and Iago both killed it. If I had to pick one? Othello. Totally convincing as the "loving" general and equally convincing in his wrath. His articulation and expression were something else.

Big thanks to Chris and Tessa for turning us on to this place. Ahu and I are already looking forward to making it an annual thing!
