If you've got one or more CDS or OMS machines installed and the CMS has been removed, going into Add / Remove Programs and trying to uninstall Vignette will fail. You'll get a message that Vignette must be “unconfigured” first. Problem is, without the CMS running, nothing can be removed in the Platform Manager. So the whole installation has to come out manually.
- Stop all services and set them to Disabled. Depending on what's installed, there may or may not be any services to disable. Reboot after disabling them.
- In the C:\Vignette directory there's a file called insts.cfg. Delete it.
- Go to Add / Remove Programs again and uninstall Vignette. This removes all the Vignette binaries, etc. but leaves the Vignette directory behind.
- Delete the Vignette directory. Ignore the warning dialog.
- Reboot. The removal's complete. Any docroot directories, etc. remaining in Inetpub or other locations still need to be removed at your discretion.
