World of Warcraft Starting to Dismay

January 15, 2008 at 21:41

I've been playing World of Warcraft for 2 years and 3 months. Don't even ask me how many hours I've put into this game. I have 3 accounts (I only play on two) and a dozen characters, including 3 that I've leveled to 70 and 2 of which are keyed for Karazhan.

Thoughts on the MacBook Air

January 15, 2008 at 20:22

Apple released the MacBook Air today. It is the world's thinnest laptop. At it's thickest, it is thinner than any other laptop's thinnest. It is a nice boon for the executive traveller who is tired of lugging around extra batteries and a heavy laptop. The MacBook Air weighs only 3 lbs. and has a battery that lasts 5 hours. That's a long battery life, really. My work laptop (not a Mac) has a 30 minute battery life and weighs 10 lbs. The MacBook Air has a full-size keyboard and a bright, clear 13.4" LCD screen.

Blu-ray Crushes HD DVD!!!

January 09, 2008 at 08:15

I have written at length about how the Playstation 3 is vastly superior, technically, than the XBox 360. Playstation 3 uses the Blu-ray format for video and game discs and the XBox 360 uses the HD DVD format for the same. There isn't that much different between the two disc formats. Essentially the difference between the two is the same as the difference between VHS and Beta for VCRs in the 80s. Back then, Sony backed the Beta format. We all know how many Beta VCRs there are now - none.

New Design Coming Soon

January 08, 2008 at 13:30

I have not even been to my own website in over 6 months. Now that I've seen it, I don't like the design anymore. I dislike the font and everything looks a little too red, white, and blue. I'm quite the patriotic dude but I don't feel the need to splash the national colors on my website. Hence, I will be coming up with a new stylesheet soon.

Switchgrass Coming on Strong

January 08, 2008 at 13:25

I am a big proponent of finding a viable biofuel alternative to oil for energy in the United States. Ethanol is a good choice but it's been a question whether or not it would be profitable and cost-effective. A new paper published today in the Proceedings of Natural Sciences clears that all up. Turns out that switchgrass produces 540% more energy than is required to grow it and turn it into ethanol. This should clear the way for large-scale conversion of marginal farmland into switchgrass crops.

ForkBender Entering It's 5th Year!

January 08, 2008 at 13:16

I started ForkBender.com with a first post on May 27, 2003. The software I use to maintain this blog is called Exposition (which sits on a CMS I wrote called Narrative). This software dates back to February, 2003. So in the next few months, I will have had Narrative and Exposition in production for 5 years! The software now powers almost a dozen websites and contains a couple of thousand posts and images. I took most of last year off to move and do other things but I am working on the software again and am looking to post more often as well. Here's to 2008!

Imperial Parking Does it Right!

March 22, 2007 at 10:58

When I commute to a client downtown, I have to take the Metra train. When I take the Metra train, I have to park in the Metra parking lot. Parking there used to cost $1.00 per day but was recently increased to $1.25. So instead of simply slipping a dollar bill into a payment slot, now I have to find the dollar bill and change. Who carries change in their pockets in the morning any more?!?!? Not me. If I use cash during the day and end up with change, I put it into a big change can at home at night for future deposit into the bank. I certainly do not grab a handful of change from the can on the way out the door in the morning, hoping to snare a quarter I can use for my parking fees.

In the Blogosphere Today - March 20, 2007

March 20, 2007 at 14:37

Well, it's been quite awhile since I was regularly writing in this blog. I've written a lot more at my World of Warcraft blog - World of Warcraft Class Guide - than here. But here is a start:

Apple's New iPhone

January 10, 2007 at 06:22

Well, Apple finally released a mobile phone device. It's called the iPhone. I followed the play-by-play yesterday on Engadget. Lucky for me, I made a "bet" on Apple stock before Jobs' keynote speech and bought a big chunk of Apple stock ahead of time. By the end of the keynote, the stock was up almost 8%. Big mobile phone competitors like Motorola, Nokia, and RIM (makers of Blackberry) all took hits on their stock prices with RIM losing almost $2 billion in market capitalization.
