WWDC Loose Ends
A couple of other thoughts I want to share as the WWDC closes down:
There are numerous rumors going around that the iPhone 3G will, in fact, be tetherable to your notebook computer. Apparently, though, the data plan will cost more for tethering…weird.
Weird rumors are floating around that there are still additional features of the 3G iPhone that have not been made public yet. The level of certainty is variable but on the high end of certainty is that there is still an unannounced sensor of some sort built into the phone.

WWDC Wrap Up - Friday
Well, the WWDC is almost over. Actually, for me, it ended yesterday afternoon. I skipped all of the sessions today in favor of staying up very late last night doing real work. I checked out of my hotel at noon and took a taxi to the airport and am now shacking up in the Red Carpet Club again, waiting for my flight at 6:30pm.
Again, I will throw out a little endorsement of the Red Carpet Club experience.

Wednesday at the WWDC and iPhone Application Pricing
My posting velocity on both CharlesSieg.com and via Twitter is decreasing a bit. There are a couple of reasons for that. One is that most of the stuff we hear during the daily sessions is covered by NDA and, while some people feel free to disregard that, I’m all about not biting the hand that feeds me. So no sneaky posts from me. Private conversations with me, however, is another story.

AT&T and How it Fits Into iPhone 3G
I’m tired so only the most important details:
Existing contracts will be replaced by new 2-year contracts, regardless of when you signed up. This is pretty much what happened last time. It’s like this perpetual relationship with AT&T. Every time an iPhone comes out, you’re stuck in 2 more years of purgatory.
A $199 iPhone means subsidies which means you will only be able to buy the iPhone from AT&T, apparently.

Status of the iPhone Developer Program
They announced in the keynote that the iPhone SDK had been downloaded over 200,000 times. Of those, about 25,000 people applied to the paid iPhone Developer Program. Of those, they have accepted only 4,000 applications. One of those was mine. I’m feeling pretty good about that right now.
Most people are still stuck running their apps in the Simulator. Let me tell you, it just ain’t the same. Not even close.

A Recap on My WWDC Predictions
I made a bunch of predictions yesterday about what would be announced today at the WWDC keynote. Here are the ones I got right:
3G
GPS
The App Store will not be ready on Day 1 (meaning today).
Thinner design.
A normal headphone jack.
Increased battery life.
New colors…I was thinking red, but for some ungodly reason they went with white…LOLWUT?
Several are as yet unknown:

WWDC 2008 - Monday
Well, today was a very good day. So far, the WWDC has not disappointed. I posted just about everything on my Twitter feed, in real-time, and, to my utter surprise, Twitter did not blow up under the stress (including the thousands of others doing the same).
The iPhone 3G has finally been announced. Much of the announcement was anticipated and there were a number of disappointments for me, but more about that later.

Zazzle Comes Through
I came to San Francisco shirtless. Well, almost. I did have my excellent Daring Fireball t-shirt that says “Your PC is a POS” and which garnered me numerous compliments at today’s WWDC sessions. I like to make an impression. LOL And this week, I wanted to express my full geekness. I was reading a fellow Mac coders blog and he mentioned some t-shirts that he had made up and was selling in Zazzle.

Tomorrow's Keynote Plan and my iPhone Predictions
Well, the big day is finally upon us. Tomorrow Steve Jobs will most likely announce the iPhone 2.0 with 3G networking and some other neat upgrades. I am in San Francisco for the epic event and will be sporting an excellent black Daring Fireball T-shirt that says “Your PC is a POS”.
As it happens, I will be arriving fairly late in the morning compared to most everyone else. There are a few reasons for this.
