More Apple Woes on Launch Day
MobileMe is up but very, very slow.
Last night I tried to get the update for my Apple TV. It failed to complete the download, despite getting to about 95%. I guess a lot of people really wanted to try out the new Remote app.

iPhone 3G US Launch Day
The iPhone 3G has launched!!! There are lines of people everywhere waiting to buy their new iPhone. Unfortunately, this time around things are going more slowly. Activation of the phone must occur in the store before leaving so it is taking 10 minutes on the low end and 30 minutes on the high end to get a new phone.
That’s bad news in Chicago where humidity is over 60% now and temperatures are expected to top 93 degrees yielding a heat index of almost 105 degrees by this afternoon.

Apple's Digital Dominance
Apple reported today two little items of interest:
They are getting a subsidy of $325 per iPhone from AT&T. This is a premium of approximately $125 over what is normally paid for a phone by a telco.
The also sold their 5 billionth song and are now serving up 50,000 movies per day. That makes them the #1 online music store and the #1 online MOVIE store!
Add this into the mix with the iPhone 3G going into 72 countries, the massive improvements in Mac OS X, and the huge numbers of new Mac owners, and it is easy to see that 2008 is going to be an amazing year for Apple.

Adobe Having Trouble with the iPhone Device?
Sounds like Adobe has got Flash running in the Simulator but not on the device itself. Could it be that Apple has yet to accept Adobe into the iPhone Developer Program? Yikes.

Great Quote from Hugh Daniel
The problem with trying to child-proof the world, is that it makes people neglect the far more important task of world-proofing the child.

WWDC Loose Ends
A couple of other thoughts I want to share as the WWDC closes down:
There are numerous rumors going around that the iPhone 3G will, in fact, be tetherable to your notebook computer. Apparently, though, the data plan will cost more for tethering…weird.
Weird rumors are floating around that there are still additional features of the 3G iPhone that have not been made public yet. The level of certainty is variable but on the high end of certainty is that there is still an unannounced sensor of some sort built into the phone.

WWDC Wrap Up - Friday
Well, the WWDC is almost over. Actually, for me, it ended yesterday afternoon. I skipped all of the sessions today in favor of staying up very late last night doing real work. I checked out of my hotel at noon and took a taxi to the airport and am now shacking up in the Red Carpet Club again, waiting for my flight at 6:30pm.
Again, I will throw out a little endorsement of the Red Carpet Club experience.

Wednesday at the WWDC and iPhone Application Pricing
My posting velocity on both CharlesSieg.com and via Twitter is decreasing a bit. There are a couple of reasons for that. One is that most of the stuff we hear during the daily sessions is covered by NDA and, while some people feel free to disregard that, I’m all about not biting the hand that feeds me. So no sneaky posts from me. Private conversations with me, however, is another story.

AT&T and How it Fits Into iPhone 3G
I’m tired so only the most important details:
Existing contracts will be replaced by new 2-year contracts, regardless of when you signed up. This is pretty much what happened last time. It’s like this perpetual relationship with AT&T. Every time an iPhone comes out, you’re stuck in 2 more years of purgatory.
A $199 iPhone means subsidies which means you will only be able to buy the iPhone from AT&T, apparently.
